JULY 29 TRAINING CAMP DEAL The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a training camp deal with big man Nathan Mensah. He was a solid rebounder for the Spurs in the Summer League and played 25 games with the Charlotte Hornets last season.
Mensah, entering his second season, was a standout at San Diego State in college and will be competing for a two-way contract in training camp JULY 28 ILLEGAL! On Sunday, Kevin Durant led Team USA to a 110-84 victory over Serbia in their first game of the 2024 Olympics, scoring 21 points on 8 of 8 shooting. He did it despite having missed each of the team's five exhibition games. Among the very impressed? San Antonio Spurs legend Manu Ginobili.
JULY 28 SWOOP? The Golden State Warriors have been heavily linked to Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen in trade gossip. ... but there is no deal yet. In fact, there might be no offer yet. So ... what's the holdup? Ans can the Spurs swoop in? NBA insider Marc Stein via his Substack says that Golden State had not yet offered Jonathan Kuminga or Brandin Podziemski for Markkanen ... so that is one obstacle.
Eventually? Stein said the Warriors would likely be more open to dealing Kuminga when considering his free agency is sooner than Podziemski's. Can San Antonio beat that offer? And beat the clock?
